Abbadia Ardenga

The Society of Executors of Pious Dispositions is an ancient institution dating back to the 13th century. It manages the legacies of benefactors and operates in the field of social solidarity, providing care for the elderly at the socio-healthcare complex known as Le Ville di Porta Romana. In accordance with the wishes of its benefactors, the Society also oversees the Piccolomini Palace Museum in Pienza, the Museum of Ancient Sienese Art, and many other cultural sites.

Abbadia Ardenga is one of the Society’s estates, with its proceeds dedicated to supporting social and cultural initiatives. Nestled in the heart of the Val d’Orcia and the renowned Brunello di Montalcino wine region, the winery is located along the historic Via Francigena route. Torrenieri is a key stop, offering visitors the chance to explore our wine museum, a registered trademark.

The winery museum of Montalcino

900 hectares of estate located in the municipality of Montalcino

Only 12 exclusively reserved for vineyards

The winery in Abbadia Ardenga is mainly dedicated to the cultivation of Sangiovese grapes, from which about 42,000 bottles a year are produced including Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Piaggia DOCG, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG, Rosso di Montalcino DOC and Capo Borgo Rosso IGT.

Only a small part is allocated to the production of white grapes, such as trebbiano and malvasia, out of which we make our Vin Santo DOC.

One Winery, One Museum, A Thousand Emotions

Mario Ciacci, has been director of the Consorzio del Brunello for about 15 years, contributing to the growth and enhancement of Brunello di Montalcino in the world. He managed the Abbadia Ardenga il Poggio estate, owned by the Society of Executors of Pious Dispositions Onlus for more than 30 years.
During his tenure, he catalogued more than a thousand tools from the farming era, registering the old post station as the Cantina Museo di Montalcino, now a place where love for history and its roots combine perfectly with passion and commitment to this precious DOCG.

The elegance of Brunello di Montalcino

A balanced-tasting wine where soft and hard substances are balanced and wonderfully combined in a good drinking wine that is not overly structured.

Sulfites in small amounts

Absent in white wines. Since 2010, also in the red, they have been excluded at the fermentation stage and added in small amounts during the aging of Brunello in barrel, thus ending up in bottle with fairly low values, much lower than in the average wines on the market.

Abbadia Ardenga

Wine cellar museum of rural arts in Tuscany

The winery museum boasts a priceless heritage: thousands of catalogued tools, bearing witness to the farming era, have been preserved over the years under the banner of a genuine “cultivation” of rural culture.

The estate itself has a very ancient history: it once belonged to the powerful Piccolomini family, most notably remembered for Pope Pius II, who was responsible for constructing the city of Pienza, a Renaissance masterpiece.
